IBD/TIPP Presidential Leadership Index: May 2009

Posted Monday, May 11, 2009 4:30 PM PT

Obama Continues To Come Off His High

The IBD/TIPP Presidential Leadership Index, which measures favorability, job approval and leadership, slipped again in May, the third drop since Barack Obama was sworn in. Almost all the slippage came among Republicans and independents. Job approval, which was the highest-rated component in February at 75.3, is now the lowest at 61.1. Still, all but the Republicans' ratings are well above 50.0, which separates optimism from pessimism about the incumbent. George W. Bush left office with a leadership index of 36.2.
